A number of high-profile internet marketers have, in recent months, “gone public” with announcements that they’re bailing out of social media, especially Twitter. The most recent one is John Reese, who said in part that he finds Twitter isn’t a profitable enough part of his business to justify the time he spends on it. What I believe John is experiencing is the fallout from having built a Twitter account from the mindset of an internet marketer, rather than from the mindset of an avid Twitter user.

I used to think some people took a contrary point of view just to feel important. We all know those types. But thanks to social media that behavior has expanded to include all of us. That’s one of the powers of our connected world – we can all voice an opinion, share our perspective, debate an issue.
